There can be several reasons for this choice; contact lenses often make playing sports and other outdoor activities much easier, and parents don't have to worry about glasses falling off or breaking. Contact lenses can also improve self-confidence. Pediatric Eye Exams for Contact Lenses
If you're thinking about your child getting contact lenses, start by asking yourself if they are ready for the responsibility of care and maintenance. Lenses must clean daily and stored properly; children who do not have the ability to do this will not be good contact lens candidates.
Next, call our office and ask about pediatric eye exams for contact lenses. The exams are a little bit different in that a patient is evaluated for the type of lenses that they will wear. You and your child will need to think about how often they will wear the lenses and what kind of care schedule they want. In many cases, we recommend daily wear lenses for new contact lenses wearers because of the reduced maintenance involved. Be aware that your child will still need a pair of glasses to wear when they are not wearing their contacts.
At the end of this exam, if the eye doctor determines that your child is a good candidate for lenses, he or she will then be taken to a contact lens fitting. This is where a technician will teach your child how to put in and take out the lenses.
